How do refugees fleeing war and persecution settle into a community that is alien to their own culture, where their presence may not always be welcome?

They may be homeless, impoverished, hungry, traumatized

and in some cases invalided or infirm. Families with children, mothers with young babies. How do they survive?.....

and as time goes on, how can we help them thrive?

We may think of refugees as people on the move, either in vulnerable boats or walking along roads attempting to reach a destination. At some point they must arrive somewhere, even if only because they can go no further and at that point they must attempt to establish roots, however tenuous. Many people think of them as having arrived, but in reality their challenges have just begun...

This is where we stepped in:  At Caring Hands For Turkey, we recognize the need to assist the significant number of refugees whose journeys end in Nizip, 

Refugee families, mostly disjointed families, often orphans and widows barely dressed for our fiercely cold -15C winter .Initially locals attempted to assist, but despite their fabulous efforts donating winter clothing, coal, blankets, etc, the numbers in need kept increasing. As millions more refugees flooded into Turkey and the crisis continued,  it became evident that this communal support needed to be organized and structured at a local level with an ongoing commitment to assistance and development .

Now as a hands on, non-governmental charitable organization,

we are able to be more effective, targeted, and committed to the long term solutions for all those in need and we operate in the camps.
